Focus on your own damn family
Swiped from Crooks and Liars, a quote from James Dobson:

“I am convinced Sen. McCain is not a conservative, and in fact, has gone out of his way to stick his thumb in the eyes of those who are. He has at times sounded more like a member of the other party….

“I cannot, and I will not, vote for Sen. John McCain, as a matter of conscience…. Should John McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime. I certainly can’t vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama based on the virulently anti-family policy positions. If these are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life.”

Apparently Rush Limbaugh, Tom deLay and Rick Santorum are all agreeing with him. If enough of the Religious RightWrong fall in line with them, that gives me more hope for a Democratic win. (Oh thank you McCain, for being so divisive in your own party!)

Naturally I have to take issue with the "anti-family policy" statement. Oh get over yourself, Dobson. They're not the least bit anti-family. And as conservatives you should be against amendments that involve the government over-controlling your personal life - like who you can marry and how or when to have children. I've never understood that hypocrisy.

I don't know what your views on choice are.. but I researched last night to see what the candidates voted for..
Obama apparently is against abortion..
Found that interesting.

According to this quote, that's not the case:

"I don’t think people take the issue lightly. A lot of people have arrived in the view that I’ve arrived at, which is that there is a moral implication to these issues, but that the women involved are in the best position to make that determination. And I don’t think they make it lightly."

He's not perfect, but that's a good answer.

And I'm about as pro-choice as they come :-) I'm a bleeding-heart liberal, remember?

but don't you think his voting history proves or disproves his speech.

that is what I thought and that is why I think YOU REALLY need to look at his voting history.. I have been doing this to people all day and making them say holy shit..not just about Obama but about a Myriad of candidates.

And go here for his statements to NARAL, affirming his pro-choice stance.

I got to say it again.. isn't doing better than saying..in his case his votes prove his true beliefs...
Anyway..I learned never to believe a word they say once I learned how to check out their voting history..It's part of the activist in me.

According to the link you posted in your own blog, (http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=9490), there are three abortion votes listed under Barrack Obama - he only voted on one, and in that case he voted FOR the measure which would "expand access to preventative health care services that reduce unintended pregnancy."

So I'm confused - where do you see him voting against abortion rights?

And according to that link I posted from NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) they gave him a score of 100 on his voting records for the past three years.

Regarding the "anti-family" thing:

1) Dobson's definition of "anti-family" is very different from that of a normal-thinking person. His idea of "pro-family" is one man married to one woman of the same race having lots of babies while the father brings home the bacon and the mother stays home wearing pearls (but not shoes) and cooking dinner. Oh, and they all go to an evangelical church on Sundays. Anything else is "anti-family" and Heinously Evil!

2) Dobson will never get over himself.

Yeah, I know, I know... but I can't get over the urge to slap him upside the head a few times. With a frying pan. Whilst wearing pearls.

I want to know if Ann Coulter is going to go through with her vow to "campaign for the Democrats if McCain is the nominee."

I'm also curious if Ann Coulter campaigning for you would help or hurt your chances.

Ooh I really really hope she goes through with it....

And that's a good question - seems like even the right-wingers are starting to distance themselves from that whackjob
